About the event
Good Night, and Good Luck is a 2005 historical drama directed by George Clooney. The film, shot in stark black and white, recounts the real-life conflict between respected CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow and the notorious Senator Joseph McCarthy during the "Red Scare" of the 1950s. David Strathairn stars as Murrow, who, alongside his team including producer Fred Friendly (Clooney), uses his television program See It Now to expose McCarthy's fear-mongering and unsubstantiated accusations of communist subversion.
The movie is a compelling and timely examination of journalistic integrity and the media's responsibility to hold power accountable. By interspersing archival footage of the real Senator McCarthy into the narrative, the film creates a chillingly authentic atmosphere, highlighting the courage of those who dared to stand up against a climate of fear and political repression.
