Harriet is a 2019 biographical film directed by Kasi Lemmons, which chronicles the life of abolitionist and American icon Harriet Tubman. The movie stars Cynthia Erivo in a powerful, Oscar-nominated performance as the courageous freedom fighter.


The film begins with a young Araminta "Minty" Ross, an enslaved woman in Maryland. After facing the threat of being sold away from her family, she makes a perilous 100-mile journey to freedom in Pennsylvania. There, she adopts the name Harriet Tubman and, guided by her deep faith and visions she attributes to God, decides to risk everything to free others. She becomes a legendary conductor on the Underground Railroad, earning the nickname "Moses." The movie highlights her repeated, dangerous missions back to the South, where she successfully guides dozens of slaves to freedom while evading her former master and bounty hunters.
