About the event
V for Vendetta is a 2005 dystopian political thriller directed by James McTeigue, based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. Set in a near-future, fascist United Kingdom ruled by a totalitarian regime, the film follows a mysterious and charismatic anarchist revolutionary known only as "V" (Hugo Weaving). Wearing a Guy Fawkes mask, V launches a meticulous and violent campaign to overthrow the oppressive government, a vendetta stemming from his own tragic past as a victim of state-run experiments.
He rescues a young woman named Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman) from the secret police, and she becomes an unlikely accomplice in his mission. The film explores themes of tyranny, political corruption, and the power of ideas to ignite revolution, culminating in V's final, explosive act of defiance on November 5th, urging the public to reclaim their freedom.
